Green Party Stunning Victories in Suffolk County Elections
In the June 4th elections the Suffolk Green Party have broken through onto the Suffolk County Council for the first time, with not one but two wins, in Mid Suffolk and Bury St Edmunds, displacing Tories.
Andrew Stringer, a Mid Suffolk District Councillor for six years, handsomely won the Upper Gipping division at the second attempt, obtaining 51% for an overall majority ahead of Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour.
In the Tower division of Bury St Edmunds, which elects two councillors, Mark Ereira-Guyer scored second highest in a field of eight candidates. Mark joined the Green Party from Labour in January 2009, and is delighted that he now has a "Green" mandate from the electorate.
Around the county other Green Party candidates improved their shares of the vote, several moving up to second places in the poll.
